In 3 days, learn to model a relational database, create its tables, write SQL queries to read and update data, and write your first PL/SQL procedures and functions.
SQL is the standard language for working with relational databases, whether you use MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server or PostgreSQL. In 3 days, you learn how a relational database is organized, how to design a simple data model, how to create and modify tables, and how to write queries that retrieve, insert, update and delete data. You then move on to grouping, functions, transactions and user permissions.
The last part introduces PL/SQL, Oracle’s procedural extension of SQL: block structure, variables, stored procedures and functions. Every topic is followed by a hands-on workshop on a sample database that you build step by step.

Do I need any database experience?
No. The course starts with the basics: what a table, a key and a relationship are, and how a relational database is organized.
Which database system is used?
The SQL workshops use MySQL with MySQL Workbench. The SQL you learn is standard and transfers easily to Oracle, SQL Server or PostgreSQL. PL/SQL is specific to Oracle; the course explains its structure and how to write procedures and functions.
What is the difference between SQL and PL/SQL?
SQL is a declarative language used to define, query and modify data. PL/SQL adds programming features such as variables, conditions, loops and error handling, so you can group several SQL statements into stored procedures and functions that run inside the database.
Can the exercises be based on our own data?
In a private group, the workshops can be adapted to a case inspired by your organization or to a copy of your own database structure.
